India defeated the West Indies by 20 runs in their opening match to kick off the T20 World Cup in style. With a best score of 52 off 40 balls, Jemimah Rodrigues led the Indian women’s run total of 141. Pooja Vastrakar took three wickets for just 20 runs as the Windies managed to only score 121 runs in 20 overs at the expense of eight wickets.
In their last warm-up match, the Proteas were destroyed by New Zealand, losing by eight wickets. After being bowled out for a pitiful 92 runs in 20 overs by Laura Wolvaardt’s team, the White Ferns took just two wickets in 14.2 overs to chase down the goal.
The last time South Africa and India faced off was during the former’s tour in June and July 2024. The three-match T20I series ended in a 1-1 draw.
South Africa has been drawn into Group B for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, and on October 4th, they will play the West Indies in Dubai. India, who are in Group A, will play New Zealand first on October 4 in Dubai.
