With the goal of retaining their championship, India, the reigning champions, will face China in the Hockey Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 final on Wednesday, November 20, at Rajgir Hockey Stadium.
Being unbeaten thus far, India is the only team in the tournament with an impeccable record. They advanced to the final by winning all of their pool-stage games and defeating Japan 2-0 in the semifinals.
The squad has shown great form and promise in this competition after previously missing out on a spot at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Right now, they have a perfect 15 points and are at the top of the table.
However, China is not a team to be taken lightly. They have been outstanding in the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy, winning four of their five pool-stage matches and defeating Malaysia 3-1 in the semi-final. They are the silver medallists from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
China only suffered one defeat, a 3-0 loss against India, which was against the same opponent.
It is now unclear if India will retain their crown and end the tournament with a spotless record, or if China would seek retribution.
Harendra Singh, the coach of India, had previously said before their game against Japan that the team is handling the knockout stages as if they were any other match and is approaching each game with the same mentality.
