The women’s singles qualifying round for the fifth Transylvania Open WTA 250 is over, and the main draw will take place on a hard surface at the BTarena in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from February 3–9.
Simona Halep, a former world number one who is currently outside the top 800 and competing in her first tournament of the year, will be in the event. In the round of 32, home favorite Halep takes on Lucia Bronzetti, the 66th-ranked player in the world.
The Transylvania tournament, formerly known as the Winners Open, will include five matches on February 3, the first day of the main event. The matchup between No. 64 Viktoriya Tomova and No. 63 Mayar Sherif is arguably the best of these. The following day is the Halep vs. Bronzetti match.
On February 1 and 2, 24 players in the top 180 in the world fought for six berths in the main singles tournament. With five Romanian players in the doubles draw and six in the main singles draw, there is a significant amount of home involvement.
