The Yankees have signed right-hander Shane Green to a minor league deal, according to his deal tracker on MLB.com.
Green has had some great seasons on his track record but has struggled lately. Last year, he lingered in the free agent market until May, when he signed with Atlanta. Unfortunately, after that delayed start he was slow to come to grips, posting an 8.47 ERA on 17 innings before his release. He approached the Dodgers and treated them well by posting a 4.05 ERA in a small sample of 6 2/3 innings.
He re-signed the minor deal with the Dodgers in the offseason and signed his contract a week ago. After a single appearance after Green threw two scoreless innings, he was assigned to an assignment to open the roster spot for David Price.
The Yankees have seen their pitching depth take a few hits in recent days, with announcements that both Lewis Gill and Chad Green need Tommy John surgery. Eroldis Chapman and Jonathan Loesiga were later added to the list of injured for Achilles tendonitis and shoulder discomfort, respectively. With four hands suddenly deducted in small order from their pitching corps, it makes perfect sense that they would seek reinforcement. Green Rail will go to the Riders and try to get back into the big leagues.
