Super Smash 2024–25 Guide: Everything You Should Know About the T20 League in New Zealand

Another important cricket match is scheduled to start on the same day in neighboring New Zealand, while India and Australia compete in the Boxing Day Test Down Under. On December 26, the Super Smash (men’s) 2024–25 season will get underway at Hamilton’s Seddon Park.

This year’s competition is unique since it will commemorate the 20th season of Twenty20 cricket in New Zealand. Due to the fact that Australia and New Zealand played their first T20 international encounter at Eden Park two decades ago, the league will have a nostalgic touch, with all teams donning vintage-style uniforms.

Format for Super Smash 2024–25

The men’s T20 league comprises six teams: Auckland Aces, Canterbury, Central Stags, Northern Districts, Otago Volts, and Wellington Firebirds are the six teams that make up the men’s T20 competition. In addition to the playoffs, which include the final, there will be a preliminary round. The top three teams advance to the playoffs after playing double round robin games both at home and away.

The teams in second and third place will face off in the eliminator, while the top-ranked team will go directly to the summit meeting. The victor advances to the championship game. Teams will receive four points for each victory, while ties and no results will earn both teams two points.

Super Overs are not available during the league phase, however they will be available during the knockout playoffs.

Schedule for Super Smash 2024–2025

On December 26, the Northern Brave and Auckland Aces will play to start the league phase. On January 30, 2025, the league stage will conclude, with the final match between the Wellington Firebirds and Norther Brave taking place in Wellington. Each team will play the other five twice.

After the 30 league games, the knockout playoffs will take place. The Cello Basin Reserve will host both the elimination round and the final on February 1 and 2, respectively.
