Salima Tete is Named Captain of India’s 18-Member Squad For the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy in 2024

The Indian women’s hockey squad, consisting of 18 players, was named captain on Monday for the Asian Champions Trophy, which will take place at the recently constructed Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar from November 11 to 20.

Tete’s deputy will be Navneet Kaur. India had great expectations going into the competition because they won the title at the Ranchi event last year.

Five other countries, including the current Olympic silver medallists China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand, will compete fiercely with the team for continental supremacy.

On November 11, India will launch their campaign against Malaysia.

Dynamic midfielder Tete commented on the squad’s selection and tournament preparation, saying: “It’s an amazing feeling to lead the team into another major tournament, especially as defending champions.”

Rising star Bichu Devi Kharibam and seasoned Savita will split goalkeeping responsibilities.

A strong lineup that includes Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, Ishika Chaudhary, Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, Jyoti, and Udita will serve as the foundation of the defense.

Neha, Sharmila Devi, Manisha Chauhan, Sunelita Toppo, and Lalremsiami—all of whom are renowned for their explosive play—will assist skipper Tete in the midfield.

With Navneet Kaur, Sangita Kumari, Deepika, Preeti Dubey, and Beauty Dungdung at the forefront, the front lineup is powerful. Interestingly, Sushila and Beauty Dungdung rejoin the team following their good recovery.
