Powerlifting in the Paris Paralympics in 2024: India’s Schedule, Rules, and Format

The powerlifting competition at the Paris Paralympics 2024 will take place at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena starting on Wednesday, September 4 and running through September 8th.

The competition, in which competitors must lift three bars of the target weight, will have twenty tournaments.

The winner is the athlete who raises the heaviest bar; in the event of a tie, the winner is the one who raises the weight first.

Rules for Powerlifting at Paris Paralympics 2024

In the event, all athletes with a functional limitation of the lower limbs or hips that prevents them from practising standing weightlifting compete in different bodyweight categories.

Bodyweight categories for women: up to 41 kg, up to 45 kg, up to 50 kg, up to 55 kg, up to 61 kg, up to 67 kg, up to 73 kg, up to 79 kg, up to 86 kg, over 86 kg

Bodyweight categories for men: up to 49 kg, up to 54 kg, up to 59 kg, up to 65 kg, up to 72 kg, up to 80 kg, up to 88 kg, up to 97 kg, up to 107 kg, over 107 kg

Format 

India’s offensive A parapowerlifting squad consisting of Parmjeet Kumar, Ashok, Sakina Khatun, and Kasthuri Rajamani was sent by India.

Sakina’s performance in the women’s 45kg event at La Chapelle Arena was lackluster as she was only able to achieve one legal lift out of her three tries. Her highest effort was 86kg.

On her second and third efforts, she was unable to lift 90 kg and 92 kg, respectively.

In the nine-lifter field, Paramjeet placed eighth with a best effort of 150 kg on his debut.

  • Men’s up to 49kg (Medal Round) at 3:30 PM IST
  • Women’s up to 45 kilograms (Medal Round) at 8:30 PM IST

September 5th

  • Men’s up to 65 kg (Medal Round) at 10:05 PM IST

September 6th

  • Women’s up to 67kg (Medal Round) at 8:30 PM IST
