Pakistan Qualifies for the Women’s World Cup in India, Set to be in Hybrid Way

Pakistan formally secured their spot in the ODI World Cup, which India will host later this year, by defeating Thailand in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The host secured its spot in the main event by defeating Thailand by 87 runs.

Sidra Amin and captain Fatima Sana’s half-centuries helped Pakistan reach 205/6 in 50 overs. Pakistan bowled out Thailand for just 118 thanks to a strong bowling effort headed by the skipper, who claimed three wickets herself.

Since Pakistan will not be traveling to India for the event, which is set to begin in late September, their qualification now guarantees that the competition will be contested using a hybrid approach.

Pakistan, who were hosting the event for the first time, got off to a great start by defeating Ireland in a thrilling match that at one point appeared to be headed for an unexpected victory. Their victories against Scotland by 6 wickets and the West Indies by 65 runs came next.

Pakistan guaranteed their place in the World Cup with four straight victories, but there is still one spot available at the Lahore Qualifiers. While Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka won their tickets by placing in the top six of the most recent cycle of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022–2025, hosts India had already qualified automatically. Bangladesh now leads with three victories in four games, but they will next play Pakistan.

A hybrid approach that was agreed upon by the Indian and Pakistan cricket boards before to the last Champions Trophy earlier this year led the BCCI to select Thiruvananthapuram as one of the tournament’s venues. In the event that Pakistan makes it to the World Cup, their games will be held in either Sri Lanka or Dubai, two nearby nations. Aside from Thiruvananthapuram, none of the other Indian locations that the BCCI considered have immigration or visa services available. The BCCI has arranged for all teams competing against Pakistan to fly from the southern coast of India because Pakistan would not be traveling to India for ICC events.
