Monica from Chandigarh beat Rutuja Kapase in boxing

City-based boxer Monica defeated Rutuja Kapase 5-0 in the bantam (52-54 kg) event at the fifth Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships in Hisar on Monday.

Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) boxer Manju Rani advanced to the semifinals after defeating Punjab’s Meenakshi 5-0 in the 48kg weight class. 21-year-old Manju showed incredible strength and definitely surprised her rival in Punjab.

Another boxer who entered the semifinals of the 48 kg weight class was S Kalaivani of Tamil Nadu, who defeated Jyotika Bisht of Himachal Pradesh by an equal margin in the semifinals.

Another star of the day was Assam’s Jamuna Boro, who advanced to the last four in the 54-kg category with a 5-0 lead over Uttarakhand’s Gayatri Kasanyal.

In the 52 kg weight category, Telangana’s Nikhat Jareen put on a stellar performance against Assam’s Manju Basumatari to advance to the semifinals with an easy 5-0 victory.

In the 54-kg category, RSPB’s punishment was just as strong, beating Manipur’s Babyrojisana Naurem 5-0 in the semi-finals.

In the 50 kg weight category, Punjab’s Komal defeated Maharashtra’s Anjali Gupta 5-0 to reach the semifinals.
