Madrid prepares for another exciting two weeks of world-class tennis as the red clay of Caja Magica beckons. The 2025 Madrid Open, which combines the ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 events, will take place in the Spanish city from April 22 to May 4.
Men’s world number one Jannik Sinner is returning from a three-month suspension after the competition, making this the last tournament without him.
2025 Madrid Open: The Novak makes a comeback
Three-time Madrid champion Novak Djokovic returns to the Spanish city to compete in the Madrid Open for the first time in three years.
Following Rafael Nadal’s retirement, world number two Alcaraz has emerged as the new prince that the Spanish people may support. A good start to the clay swing, when “Carlitos” won his maiden title in Monte-Carlo, has given a difficult season new life.
But after winning his third home title in Munich, Alexander Zverev has regained his position as the world’s number two seed when Alcaraz lost to Holger Rune in the Barcelona Open final. Zverev and Alcaraz are hoping to catch up to Sinner before he returns to the tour, and they are only five ranking points apart going into the Madrid Open.
After an incredible week on the Catalan clay, 21-year-old Dane Rune secured his third career clay victory and returned to the top 10. He now sits in ninth place.
