The leader in sacks is headed to the Pro Bowl, and he’s not alone.
Due to his 2023 season performance, outside linebacker Josh Allen—who holds the record for most sacks in a single season—was selected to the 2024 Pro Bowl on Wednesday night. Long snapper Ross Matiscik of the Jaguars was also selected for the Pro Bowl.
The 2023 Pro Bowl roster was revealed by the NFL on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
With three sacks in a win over the Carolina Panthers this past Sunday, fifth-year veteran Allen set the record for the most sacks in a single season for the Jaguars. His total now stands at 16.5, two sacks ahead of the previous mark set by Calais Campbell in 2017. Three three-sack games this season have been recorded by Allen, the seventh overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Allen has 61 total tackles this season, 41 of which are solo. He also has 16 tackles for loss, 31 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and one interception. In addition to Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor (four games in 1986), he is the only player since 1982 to record at least 2.5 sacks in four separate games. His 16.5 sacks rank third in the NFL.
Allen’s rookie season in 2019 culminated in his selection to the Pro Bowl.
With eight special teams tackles, Matiscik, an NFL veteran in his fourth season with the Jaguars, leads the team. That sum ranks top among long snappers as well. On November 19, in the Jaguars’ Week 11 victory over the Tennessee Titans, he also and recovered a fumble. Matiscik is receiving his first Pro Bowl honor.
The Pro Bowl games in 2024 are scheduled to start on Thursday, February 1 in Orlando, Florida. The Pro Bowl Games, an AFC vs. NFC competition spanning multiple days that includes skills competitions and a seven-on-seven flag football match, will take place on Sunday, February 4 at Camping World Stadium.
