You can take cricket out of Chennai but you can’t take cricket out of people of Chennai. This they have proved every time Chennai Super Kings have taken the field no matter in Chennai or any other part of the country. Last year when CSK’s game was shifted to Pune, fans traveled from Chennai to Pune to support their team. Due to this huge support, CSK lifted the trophy last year. Last night’s game of Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals were CSK’s last home game and the amount of support that they were getting from the fans was enormous. After winning the game the scene at the stadium was bewitching. Players did a lap of honor thanking the fans for the support for over the years.
Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to field first. Chepauk is the only pitch this season which has supported spinners well. This game’s story was also the same. CSK didn’t have the start that they would have wondered. They scored only 27 runs in the powerplay and also lost Watson’s wicket for a duck. This suggested the slow nature of the pitch. But after some decent innings from du Plessis, Raina and some fireworks from MS Dhoni, CSK managed to score 179 runs for a loss of 4 wickets.
Chasing 180 at Chepauk is always difficult when the opposition has Imran Tahir, Harbhajan Singh, and Ravindra Jadeja. Same happened with DC. Shreyas Iyer was the lone warrior for them who scored 44 runs off 31 balls. 9 batsmen were not able to touch double-digit figure too.
