Indian Women’s team will be put to the test in a five-match series against Australia from April 26 to May 4 following a month-long senior national training camp.
India will play the Australian A team on April 26 and 27 before taking on the Australian Senior squad, ranked fifth in the world, on May 1, 2, and 4 at the Perth Hockey Stadium.
The Indian squad had a mixed record in their most recent home game of the FIH Hockey Pro League (Women), winning two games and a shootout after eight games.
They finished their campaign with a victory in their final match, defeating World No. 1 the Netherlands by winning the bonus point in an exciting shootout following a 2-2 draw over the four quarters.
Salima Tete and Navneet Kaur are the captains of the 26-man team that coach Harendra Singh has selected for the series. Deepika, a young dragflicking sensation, has been playing really well lately. In February, she scored three important goals in India’s FIH Hockey Pro League games, and she plans to continue her scoring run.
Udita Singh played four games for India in the same competition, scoring two goals and playing outstanding defense. Savita, the seasoned goalie who just earned her 300th international cap for India and is still a rock wall for the country, will also be highlighted.
Five players, in addition to the current core group, have been called up to the senior squad and may be making their senior team debut in Australia: Jyoti Singh, Sujata Kujur, Ajmina Kujur, Pooja Yadav, and Mahima Tete.
Throughout history, Australia has consistently posed a serious threat to India. India has recently performed well against Australia, despite the fact that in the 16 games played between the two teams, Australia has won 10 and drew 3. In the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023–24, India won their most recent meeting 1-0 and will be looking to carry on the winning streak.
