1st ODI highlights between India Vs. England: Shreyas Iyer (59 off 36), Shubman Gill (87 runs off 96 balls), and Axar Patel (52 off 47) all scored half-centuries on Thursday to help India defeat England by four wickets and grab a 1-0 series lead in Nagpur. India was having trouble chasing England’s 248 after losing openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal to easy dismissals.
But the Indian innings was saved by the 94-run partnership between Iyer and Gill. Gill and Axar put up a 108-run partnership after Iyer was out to move India closer to victory.
The bowling attack of India was led by Harshit Rana (3/53) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/26) who dismissed England for 248 in 47.4 overs. Each of Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Shami claimed a wicket. Even though they had a solid opening partnership of 71 runs, England’s downfall started when Phil Salt was run out at 43, and they continued to lose wickets at a steady pace after that.
The Indian bowlers were at the top of their game despite attempts by captain Jos Buttler (51), Jacob Bethell (51), and Ben Duckett (32) to put up a fight. ‘Sore right knee’ kept Virat Kohli out of the match.
The next match between India and the visitors will take place at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha, on Sunday, February 9, after India has grabbed the lead in the series.
