ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024: Super Eight Points Table Updated Following England’s Dominant Victory Against West Indies

After defeating the West Indies in spectacular fashion to win their first match in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Super Eight, England is once again defending their championship.

The Men in Maroon are currently struggling at the bottom of Group 2, while England has risen to the top of the standings after defeating the Windies by eight wickets.

Thanks to a higher net run rate (NRR), England has gained two points and is now ahead of South Africa. South Africa is ranked second on the table with two points and a net run rate of 0.900, while the Three Lions currently have a net run rate of 1.343.

Having fallen to the Proteas by a mere 18 runs, the United States of America (USA) are now ranked third on the standings. The West Indies’ net run rate has plummeted to -1.343.

Jos Buttler, the captain of England, expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance against the West Indies at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia. He also praised the efforts of his players, who were instrumental in the team’s victory.

“That was a really good performance. We were practicing well, executed well today. (Chasing 180) We bowled well to restrict a powerful batting line-up. We were smart with the bat, the guys were calculative,” said Buttler during the post-match presentation.

“The partnership between Barkstow and Salt was excellent. Salty’s over proved to be the game-breaker after Jonny’s deep run. For this reason, we brought Pooran, Russell, and Jof (Archer) back there. Our intention was to utilize him for either obtaining a wicket or limiting their approach to severely test the back five.”
