The 7th Annual Hockey India Awards 2024, which will be held in New Delhi on March 15, have officially revealed their candidates. This year’s event is the biggest celebration of Indian hockey to date, with a record prize pool of almost INR 12 crores.
The final shortlist consists of 32 nominees from eight different categories. The presentation will honor and commemorate these nominees who have made significant contributions to the sport throughout the course of the year.
Among the main attractions is the Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year, which is given to the top male and female athletes. The Hockey India Jugraj Singh Award for Upcoming Player of the Year (Men) and the Hockey India Asunta Lakra Award for Upcoming Player of the Year (Women) have also highlighted young talents.
Additionally, awards like the Hockey India Dhanraj Pillay Award for Forward of the Year, the Hockey India Pargat Singh Award for Defender of the Year, the Hockey India Ajit Pal Singh Award for Midfielder of the Year, and the Hockey India Baljit Singh Award for Goalkeeper of the Year will be given to recognize individual excellence across a range of positions.
A number of special awards, including the Hockey India President Award for Outstanding Achievement and the Hockey India Jaman Lal Sharma Award for Invaluable Contribution, will also be presented during the program. Officials will also receive the Best Member Unit Award, the Hockey India President Award for Technical Official of the Year, and the Hockey India President Award for Umpire/Umpire Manager of the Year.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team’s historic World Cup victory on the same date in 1975—their first and only title to date—this year’s Hockey India Annual Awards will take place on March 15.
In addition, 2025 marks 100 years of Indian hockey since India joined the International Hockey Federation (FIH) on November 7, 1925, a year after the FIH was established. India’s long history of hockey and its lasting influence on the game are honored in this historic year.
The Olympic bronze medal-winning Indian team will be honored, as will the 2024 Asian Champions Trophy winning men’s and women’s teams. At the award presentation, the men’s and women’s teams that won the Junior Asia Cup will also get recognition.
Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Kumar Tirkey said, “The Hockey India 7th Annual Awards 2024 is a celebration of the extraordinary talent we have in Indian hockey.”
