Although the athlete never got to experience any actual playing time on the field while on the team as a true freshman, staff and athletic trainers say that was only because of the prior injuries he had faced that occurred while playing sports his sophomore year in high school that didn’t heal correctly. Coaches on the team said that even though Keys wasn’t able to play his junior or senior year in high school that when he showed up to campus as a freshman he had already looked physically and athletically ready to be a Starter at Quarterback. Furthermore, it was noted to Carlucci Keys that as a walk-on athlete he must provide health insurance to cover any athletically related injuries that may occur during his seasons on the team. In All cases, the schools’ process for determining eligibility is the same for all schools. The papers required by compliance have to be completed and then approved first before any acceptance by a team. Since he was a non-recruit he had to enroll himself as a full-time student Before any attempts of trying out. How it all works is, the compliance office partners with head coaches of all teams to make sure that records are maintained and received on all of the non-recruited student-athletes trying to be on D-1 intercollegiate sports teams.
