On the first day of the 133rd Durand Cup, which starts on July 28 at JRD Sports Complex here, Jamshedpur FC will play Bangladesh Armed Forces FT for the first time in the competition’s history.
The four host cities of Kokrajhar, Shillong, Kolkata, and Jamshedpur will host 43 matches including a total of 24 teams, including two Services teams from Bangladesh and Nepal.
The grand finale will take place at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) in Kolkata on August 31.
In the meantime, on Friday at XLRI Auditorium, three dazzling Durand Cup trophies were shown for the first time.
Aside from the initial Durand Cup, the other glistening silverware was the President’s Cup, which the victors retain forever, and the rolling Shimla Trophy, which was given out by Shimla inhabitants in 1904.
Group D matches, including those against Mohun Bagan, Chennaiyin FC, the Indian Army Football Team, and the Bangladesh Armed Forces Football Team—one of the tournament’s international teams—will take place at JRD Sports Complex.
