Eight All-Lone Star Conference honors were taken home by the West Texas A&M men’s basketball team tonight at the league-hosted men’s basketball awards banquet. Kieran Elliott won Freshman of the Year, Holt won Defensive Player of the Year, and Larry Wise was named the LSC Player of the Year. Coach Tom Brown received his fifth career LSC Coach of the Year award.
Wednesday night saw the addition of Wise and Holt to the First Team. During the regular season, Wise pulled down 5.4 rebounds and scored 19.9 points per game on 45.0 percent shooting from the field. Along with recording 19 steals and 11 blocks, the Waxahachie, Texas native led the Buffs in assists (97). With an impressive 42 blocked shots to lead the league and a steals ranking inside the top 20 in the conference, Holt emerged as the conference’s best defensive player. Along with his defense, Holt’s regular-season contributions to the team included 11.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Elliott’s true freshman campaign saw him average 12.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, good enough for a spot on the Second Team. In addition, the native of Lubbock, Texas, contributed 20 assists along with 15 steals and 7 blocks. Ahamed Mohammed received an Honorable Mention designation and Zach Toussaint was named to the Third Team. Holt was selected to the All-Defensive team, and Noah Pagotto joined Elliott on the All-Freshman team.
On Thursday, March 7, the Buffs take on Cameron, the eighth-seeded team, in the LSC tournament opener. The game is set to begin at six o’clock inside Frisco, Texas’ Comerica Center.
