Mushfiqur Rahim, the wicketkeeper for Bangladesh, declared his retirement from One-Day Internationals (ODI). The 37-year-old, who played for Bangladesh in the just finished Champions Trophy, made his announcement.
“While our achievements may have been limited on a global level, one thing is certain: whenever I stepped onto the field for my country, I gave more than 100% with dedication and honesty,” Rahim said.
“Lastly, I would like to deeply thank my family, friends and my fans for whom I have played cricket for the last 19 years,” said Rahim.
Mushfiqur Rahim’s ODI Stats and Records
Rahim played 274 appearances since making his ODI debut nearly 20 years ago, amassing 7,795 runs at an average of 36.42. With 8,357 runs, only Tamim Iqbal has scored more than any other Bangladeshi player.
In 102 T20 internationals and 94 Test matches, he has also played for his nation. He is still playing for the Test team and is on track to become the first Bangladeshi cricket player to play 100 Test matches, even though he has already retired from T20 cricket.
Rahim made just two runs against New Zealand and was removed for a duck against India in Bangladesh’s dismal Champions Trophy campaign, which marked his final ODI appearances.
