Australia Selects Jake-Fraser McGurk And Cooper Connolly For Tours Of England And Scotland In A New Look Squad

Australia has revealed their updated ODI and T201 teams for their September 11 white-ball matches against Scotland and England.

Following David Warner’s retirement, new batting prodigy Jake Fraser-McGurk has been chosen in both squads with the intention of securing the vacant opening spot.

Cooper Connolly’s two excellent domestic seasons have earned him a spot in the T20 squad for the tour to the United Kingdom.

As Australia prepares for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in 2026, he has been selected to replace Matthew Wade, who was left off the roster. Wade captained Australia to a third-place finish at the 2022 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Ashton Agar, an all-rounder who bowls spin, was also left out.
Senior bowler Pat Cummins has been rested in anticipation of the forthcoming five-match home Test series with India in the Australian summer, even though Mitchell Marsh will captain the team in both series.

Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc will miss the T201 portion of the tour before returning to the squad for the five ODI matches against England.

George Bailey, the chief selector, thinks the tour is an excellent opportunity to incorporate younger players into the lineup.
“This tour gives us a great opportunity to bring in some new players in the absence of David Warner and Matthew Wade, as well as giving some senior players time to prepare for the home summer and a busy first half of next year,” Bailey stated in a statement.

“We are particularly pleased to offer Cooper his first opportunity in the T20 squad having introduced the likes of Jake (Fraser-McGurk), Spencer (Johnson), Xavier (Bartlett) and Aaron (Hardie) in the past 12 months.

“They are exciting prospects to join the likes of Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis and Josh Inglis in the white-ball setup.”

On September 5, Australia and Scotland will play their first men’s bilateral series consisting of three Twenty20 Internationals.

On September 12, they will play England in three Twenty20 Internationals and five One-Day Internationals.
