Ashleigh Gardner, an Australian all-rounder, has been named captain of the Gujarat Giants for the forthcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. Gardner made her debut in 2017 and is a key member of the Australian cricket team.
The all-rounder, who has won two Belinda Clark Awards, was instrumental in Australia’s 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medal triumph. At the 2023 T20 World Cup in South Africa, she was also voted Player of the Tournament.
Since the beginning of the league, Gardner has been a vital member of the Gujarat Giants. She has taken 17 wickets and scored 324 runs in the last two WPL seasons.
“It is an absolute honour for me to be named the captain of Gujarat Giants. I have loved being a part of this team and I am excited to lead this fantastic group in the upcoming season. We have a great mix of young and experienced players and plenty of Indian talent in our squad. I am looking forward to working with the team and making our fans proud,” Gardner said.
