Bangladesh, the reigning ACC Men’s U-19 Asia Cup champions, will play Sri Lanka in their last Group B match on Tuesday, December 2, 2024, at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Despite scoring a cautious 228/9 in 50 overs, Bangladesh U-19 defeated Afghanistan U-19 by 45 runs to begin their title defense. With his 103 off 133 balls, captain Md. Azizul Hakim Tamin was named Player of the Match.
They defeated Nepal U-19 by five wickets in the second game. Bangladesh pulled down the target in just 28.4 overs after dismissing Nepal for 141 in 45.4 overs, with opener Zawad Abrar winning POTM with 59 off 65. Tamin, the captain, was still undefeated at 53 off 71.
When playing Nepal and Afghanistan, Sri Lanka U-19 was equally brutal. After scoring 233, the five-time finalists defeated Nepal by 55 runs. The POTM award went to wicketkeeper Sharujan Shanmuganathan, who put the innings together with a patient 62 off 99.
The 2017 winners only lasted 28.2 overs for 112 runs, and Sri Lanka’s 243/7 versus Afghanistan was more than plenty thanks to Shanmuganathan’s batting (102 off 132). The victors of Tuesday’s match will advance to Group B, and both teams have advanced to the semi-finals.
