Juventus have progressed into the quarter finals and its been a productive night from Cristiano Ronaldo and the team. The odds were stacked on Atletico parking the bus in Turin and focused on killing the attack from Juve as they walked into Italy with 2 goals in hand. Of course, Massimiliano Allegri and team had other ideas in mind.
Juventus has a history of reaching various stages of knockout, even reaching the cup final twice, in the last decade in Champions league but never lifted the cup with Ronaldo himself denying the opportunity while playing for Real Madrid
Ronaldo was brought in from Real Madrid, as the missing piece in the puzzle, in the summer of 2018 for a 100+ million to boost their chances of winning the champions league as the whole club underwent rebranding. CR7 is one of, if not the, most decorated player in Real Madrid and has secured legendary status with the club and the football world. In recent time itself, Ronaldo has won the last 4 out of 5 champion leagues with Real and portrayed himself as a Champions league specialist.
Ronaldo who is arguably the best footballer in the world at the moment didn’t show a lot by the standards he is held at so far in world football but once again proved the haters and the doubters wrong when his team needed him the most.
As the match progressed, Juventus had to score 3 or more goals to progress in the cup tie keeping in mind that conceding another goal would practically end the competition for them. But the whole team worked in sync to balance the level of play and Ronaldo himself netted the hattrick pushing Juventus 3-2 on aggregate. Notable performances are from attacker Bernardeschi and goalkeeper Sczcesny of Juventus
Both the clubs from Madrid (Atletico and Real) took the brunt force of Ronaldo as one team fell by his absence while another team fell to his presence. Real Madrid seem to be missing Ronaldo as they are on the path of a trophy less season dropping out of the Spanish league, Spanish cup and the Champions league in the span of 1 week!
All said and done, we are still to see if Juventus are real contenders to lift the trophy and if Ronaldo is really cursed with a gift! My take is that if Ronaldo can win the trophy with Juventus then he can win it with anyone!
