CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland Cavaliers signed a pair of players Wednesday afternoon, bringing their total training camp to a maximum of 20.
Experienced big man Ed Davis got a one-year, unguided contract. A source told Cleveland.com that coach J.B. Bickerstaff pushed for the acquisition of 32-year-old Davis, known as one of the best locker-room kids and guides around the league. It’s uncertain how many days Davis will be on the roster, but he expects to fill the last place to start the year, giving the Cavaliers more frontcourt room – and another reliable voice that could help guide this young roster.
Last season Minnesota appeared in 23 games with the Timberwolves, 6-foot-9 forward / center seven games. In 2010 Draft No. 13, Davis was with six teams in 11 seasons.
Cleveland added swingman Justin James to the training camp roster. James, 24, who is known for his defense, was pardoned by the Utah Jazz two weeks ago. Prior to that short career in Utah, James played for the Sacramento Kings, appeared in 36 games and averaged 3.9 points in 8.6 minutes.
James, who is expected to play in Friday’s pre-season final against the Indiana Pacers, will have a chance to claim one of the Cavaliers’ open two-way slots. If he doesn’t, he could stay in Cleveland playing with the franchise’s G-League affiliation.
