Carly Lloyd wasted no time in hitting her retirement tour.
The star of the United States women’s national team set an event record with an impressive victory over Paraguay on Thursday night in the first of four friendly matches this fall.
Lloyd scored four ridiculous five goals in the first half as Team USA beat Paraguay 9-0 at Cleveland’s First Energy Stadium. This adds to the USWNT single-game scoring record.
Alex Morgan reached the five-goal mark against Thailand in the 2019 World Cup. No player in the history of the team has scored six runs in a single match to date.
Lloyd also went immediately after scoring on a corner kick in less than three minutes of the match.
She cleared the second goal two minutes later.
Lloyd scored her hat-trick in the 34th minute, the ninth of her career to equal Mia Hamm for the most times in USWNT history. She then found the net again in the first half minute.
Thanks to Lloyd, and a pair of Andy Sullivan, USWNT went into the locker room with a six-goal lead.
Lloyd ended her night in the last minute with one last goal, bouncing a header on a corner kick for the fifth game of the game.
Lloyd has scored 133 goals in her international career, second only to Ham, Abby Wambach and Christine Sinclair (who scored 187 times in her career).
Lloyd, 39, announced last month that he would retire after a four-game friendly tour with the NWSL season and the USWNT this fall. The team has three matches left on the tour, starting with a pair against South Korea in October, with a second match against Paraguay next week.
