Colts lose RB Marlon Mack for the season due to torn Achilles

A MRI on Colts running back Marlon Mack affirmed that he endured a season-finishing torn Achilles in Sunday’s misfortune to the Jacksonville Jaguars, coach Frank Reich said Monday.

Mack endured the injury in the wake of getting an underneath go in the second quarter. He quickly got his ankle, got up and removed his helmet before waving for help from the Colts’ sideline.

Mack’s injury comes in the last year of his agreement. The Colts didn’t offer him an agreement extension during the offseason.

Mack, who rushed for a career-high 1,091 yards in 2019, missed at least two games in every one of his initial three seasons with the Colts.

Depth at running back isn’t an issue for the Colts. Nyheim Hines, who had two touchdowns in the first half, and rookie Jonathan Taylor became the essential running backs Mack left the game. The Colts additionally have Jordan Wilkins in the backfield, as they have focused on running the ball.

“I know [Mack’s] going to be in not only my ear but the rest of the backs’ ear until he gets back — whatever his status is — in order to make sure we can uphold his part and make sure that the running back group is not a dropoff,” Taylor said Sunday.
