Spanish Para Badminton International 2025: India led the charge in the Spanish Para Badminton International 2025- II in Vitoria, Spain, with gold medals in the SL3 and SL4 categories, respectively, from Paris Paralympic champion Kumar Nitesh and Sukant Kadam.
Sukant defeated fellow Indian Tarun 21-13 21-10 in the SL4 category on Sunday, while Nitesh defeated Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara 21-19 21-19 in the SL3 division final.
“I’m happy to start 2025 with a gold medal. Every match here was a learning experience, and I’m glad I could perform consistently. This win motivates me for the rest of the season,” Sukant said
Nithyashre defeated Szmigiel of Poland in the final to take first place on the podium in the SH6 category.
Nitesh and Tarun defeated Jagadesh Dilli and Naveen Sivakumar of India 21-14, 23-25, 22-20 in the men’s doubles match.
There was also a significant Indian presence at the mixed doubles competitions.
To win gold in the SH6 division, Krishna Nagar and Nithya Sre defeated Shephard and Choong of England with a commanding 21-14, 21-11 victory.
In the SL3-SU5 division, Nitesh and Manisha Ramadass helped India win another gold medal by easily defeating Rickad Nillson of Sweden and Hello Sofie Sagoy of Denmark with scores of 21-9 and 21-15.
In the meantime, Alphia James put up a valiant fight in the women’s singles final but lost to Ilaria Olgiati of Switzerland and had to accept silver.
