Dubai Tennis Championships: Daniil Medvedev Defeats Jan-Lennard Struff to Advance Second Round

Dubai Tennis Championships: Russia’s top-seeded Daniil Medvedev advanced to the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships after defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets.

After a fierce battle, the former US Open champion won 6-4 7-6 (7-4) in 1 hour and 44 minutes to advance to the round of 16 and face Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Following a bout of food poisoning that forced him to withdraw from last week’s Qatar Open, Medvedev returned to his winning ways at the tournament where he won two years prior.

In the first set, the world number six needed only one serve break to draw first blood. He then advanced by remaining composed in a second-set tie-break.

Additionally, top seed Medvedev emphasized the significance of staying focused on his own performance levels, given that earlier in the day, players like Andrey Rublev and Alex de Minaur had failed at the first hurdle.

Daniil Dominant

Medvedev, who has now defeated Struff in eight of their nine meetings, continued to dominate their head-to-head record. In addition to dominating the serve, the top seed saved all four break points he faced and hit seven aces to his opponent’s two.
