The Sultan of Johor Cup campaign for the Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team will begin on Saturday in Johor, Malaysia, when they play their first game against Japan.
India will take on a formidable group of rivals beginning on October 19 in an attempt to secure a place in the October 26 championship match. These opponents include Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and hosts Malaysia.
The team will be captained by Amir Ali, with Rohit acting as vice-captain, under the direction of recently hired Head Coach PR Sreejesh. On October 20, India will play Great Britain in their next game.
They will play Australia on October 23 and Malaysia on October 22 after a short break. On October 25, they will play their last group stage game against New Zealand. To go to the final, India needs to place in the top two in the pool.
India had previously trounced Japan 5-1 in the Sultan of Johor Cup in 2022 and had won 3-1 against them in the Men’s Junior Asia Cup in May 2023.
