France’s World Cup Winner, Antoine Griezmann, has Announced his Retirement from International Football at the Age of 33

France’s 2018 World Cup-winning Griezmann made a shocking call as he suddenly announced his retirement from international football on Monday.

Griezmann ended a ten-year outstanding career with his national side after making his debut back in 2014.

“is with a heart full of memories that I am closing this chapter of my life,” France vice-captain Griezmann wrote.

In a friendly encounter against the Netherlands in March 2014, the 33-year-old made his debut for the Les Blues. In that game, he played for 68 minutes.

He represented France in 137 matches, only behind his former teammate Hugo Lloris (145) and 1998 World Cup champion Lilian Thuram (142) in terms of international appearances.

In terms of France’s all-time best scorers, Griezmann came in fourth at the end of his international career.
With 44 goals, the seasoned striker trails just Olivier Giroud, Thierry Henry, and Kylian Mbappe, who is currently captain.

Griezmann scored in France’s 4-2 victory against Croatia in the World Cup final and was a major contributor to the team’s victory in Russia in 2018.

In addition, he scored six goals to help France go to the Euro 2016 final, where they were defeated by Portugal led by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Atletico Madrid player performed admirably in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where France was defeated by Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the championship game on penalties.

Despite being one of the favorites, his team’s performance at the last big competition, Euro 2024, fell short of expectations as they were unable to get to the semifinals.

Earlier this month, the explosive football player played his last game for France in a UEFA Nations League victory at home against Belgium.

This Thursday, coach Didier Deschamps will announce the lineup for France’s upcoming Nations League matches against Belgium in Brussels on October 4 and Israel in Budapest on October 10.
