Test match between ENG and WI: Ben Stokes, the captain of England, became a member of an exclusive group on Thursday night after amassing 6000 runs and claiming 200 wickets. Sir Garfield Sobers and Jacques Kallis are the only two players who have reached this milestone before him. The first Test match between England and the West Indies at the Lord’s Cricket Ground saw the English captain pull off this historic achievement on the second day of play. As the West Indies were reeling by 79/6 at stumps on Day 2 and down by 171 runs, the Three Lions controlled the opening two days of play.
With over 6000 runs and 200 wickets taken in the longest format, Stokes is currently the first player from England and the third overall. After 93 Test matches, Sobers amassed 8032 runs and claimed 235 wickets. Jacques Kallis, the great all-rounder for the Proteas, participated in 166 Test matches and amassed 13892 runs and 292 wickets. Ben Stokes of England reached this milestone in his 103rd Test match, having amassed 6320 runs and 200 wickets.
When Stokes dismissed West Indies batsman Kirk McKenzie for a duck in his opening over, he accomplished this milestone. With a record of doubling his career total of 10,000 runs and 300 wickets in international cricket, he has joined yet another elite club. Carl Hooper, Sanath Jayasuriya, Jacques Kallis, Shahid Afridi, and Shakib Al Hasan are a few of the players on this list. In the second innings, Stokes also removed Mikyle Louis, taking his 201st wicket at that point after the batsman had nicked from behind to Jamie Smith, who had held on for the previous ten overs.
The bowler stokes’s comeback
Stokes had claimed a wicket and bowled eight overs in the West Indies’ opening innings as well. “I can finally say that I can play the role that I’ve been known for, which is batting and being that fourth seamer, for ten years,” he said to the reporters during the pre-match news conference. I know how much I contribute to the squad as that fourth seamer because I’ve worked so very hard to be here. I can’t wait to get started this week.”
England scored 371 runs after the Ben Stokes-led team had dismissed the West Indies for 121 runs in the opening innings. The Caribbean team was still having trouble as they were trailing at 79/6 in the second innings and had a significant amount of work ahead of them to make up ground.
