The first doubleheader match of the IPL 2024 season between the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 23, at 3:30 PM (IST) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mohali.
Due to their inability to win the coveted trophy during the 16-year IPL existence, neither team has a particularly strong franchise history.
Conversely, DC had experienced some success in recent years, placing in the top four in 2019 and 2020 and ultimately making it to the championship game for the first time in the team’s history.
In contrast to Punjab’s two appearances in the playoffs, they also succeeded in qualifying six times.
In spite of this, each team was equal in weight when they played in the Indian Premier League. Delhi and Punjab have played each other 32 times, with 16 victories apiece, making the matchup fairly even.
The 51-run victory Delhi recorded at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (formerly known as Feroz Shah Kotla) in 2017 over Punjab has to rank as their greatest IPL victory in terms of runs scored. Delhi also has the distinction of having won by 10 wickets (D/L method) in 2009.
The 10-wicket victory Punjab had over Delhi in 2017, when they bowled DC out for 67 runs and chased the target down in just 7.5 overs, has to rank as their greatest victory over Delhi.
The previous season, Punjab achieved their greatest victory in terms of runs scored, defeating the opposition by 31 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where Prabhsimran Singh struck an incredible 103 off of just 65 balls.
