The 28-member core probable group for the senior men’s national coaching camp was revealed by Hockey India on Monday. The camp is set to start on March 12 and run through March 30 at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
The Indian team will be trying to refine their preparations for the pivotal Olympics in Paris in 2024, which makes the upcoming camp important.
After a strong campaign in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023–24, where they are now ranked third with 15 points from 8 games played over the Bhubaneswar and Rourkela legs, the team returns to camp. The FIH Hockey Pro League 2023–2024 will resume on May 22, 2024, in Antwerp, Belgium. On June 1, the league will move to London, and for the last leg, on June 1, it will move to the Netherlands.
Chief Coach Craig Fulton of the Indian men’s team stated, “We need to make sure we are in the best possible shape before heading for a series of test matches in Australia. We are looking to begin an important block of training in this camp. We have selected a group of seasoned players in addition to some young players who have experience playing in the Pro League because the players selected for the camp will be considered to play the forthcoming important games.”
“The Pro League mini-tournament in Odisha proved to be a great training ground, but there’s always room for improvement. We’ll try to get things straight before the Pro League’s last leg and the 2024 Olympics in Paris,” he continued.
