New York Yankees have agreed to a six-year, $162 million contract for left-handed starter Carlos Rodon.
After opting out of a contract with the San Francisco Giants at the conclusion of the previous season, Rodon, who is 30 years old, was the best pitcher still available. In 2022, he went 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA and pitched 178 innings in 31 starts, a career high. Additionally, he was named to his second consecutive All-Star team.
The Chicago White Sox selected Rodon with the third overall pick in the 2014 draft. However, Rodon suffered from injuries for the majority of his career before undergoing Tommy John surgery. He got back to his best in 2021, making 24 starts with a 2.37 earned run average, but the White Sox were careful with him at the end. In the final two months of the season, he never threw more than five innings.
